PostSubject: Tasmanian Tiger   Wed Sep 24, 2008 9:49 pm

This cryptid, is not really a cryptid at all. The Tasmanian Tiger, also known as the Thylacine, was very real at one time. It became extinct to the Australian, native state of being, mainland thousands of years before any eropean settlments and only survived on the island of Tasmania. There were many different attributes to the Thylacine, but perhaps the most amazing is its ability to open its jaw up to 120 degrees.

Most people blame the extinction of the Thylacine on hunters who killed them for their much valued fur. However, there are other factors that affected their extinction as well such as disease and thier competition in food with the dingo.

The last known Thylacine was held in captivity in the Hobart Zoo were it lived for three years under the name of Benjamin. Unfortunatley it died on Septemeber 7, 1936. People think that the dry weather and poor living conditions is what did it down. This link has some of the footage of the last knownThylacine, "Benjamin"http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bwmhmAfcRt8&feature=related Even though that Thylacine was supposedly "the last" there have still been many sightings of the Tasmania Tiger.

This thread is being set up for further discussions on the Thylacine. Please feel free to discuss your opinions and information on the subject. And if you have any questions please ask.
